From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a diverse cast of heroes, and a thrilling plot featuring divine entities, fiends, and dark forces expanding in power within the city.
Heads-up: Spoilers for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 are included.
The Warrior Group Unveiled
The third episode concluded with a major cliffhanger and revealed the premier party of characters who will split off from the main group to embark on their independent quest, distinct from the remaining groups.
This warrior group consists of Teor Pridesire (brought to life by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (the player), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).
Why Split the Party?
Given a large ensemble, it was obvious from the outset that having everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.
This explains, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Prelude, weaving together the individual narratives before splitting into three distinct groups: Fighters, Strategists, and Seekers.
What Defines the Warrior Group
According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for players who enjoy a typically action-packed battle-oriented gameplay experience where non-violent answers are few and far between.
Upon first impression, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might look out of place, but the events of the latest installment demonstrate why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.
Reasons to Leave
For one thing, the party has a clear idea where to head next after a brutal first encounter with the antagonists.
Casimir of the deceased character—whose passing initiated the narrative’s action—manipulated the foes for his own means, invading the hidden lair, attacking Thimble, and swiping all the powerful objects to dispose of.
Casimir then settled his obligations and fled to a fortified location in the northern region, north of Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.
Individual Reasons
Secondly, each member has a individual motive to leave the city the urban setting:
- The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, wants revenge.
- Kattigan is familiar with the northern area and advises that it is a nasty environment.
- The warrior and Wicander, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to kill the target and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
- Yet, their position as prominent individuals in House Halovar could enable the group access places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Additionally, The grateful character swore a eternal obligation to The cleric for his deliverance and will now follow him everywhere.
Fugitives
Lastly, all of them are wanted by the authorities that control the city for a range of causes, making lingering locally dangerous:
- The rogue and The character are known criminals.
- The warrior and The cleric defied the influential house and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
- The target is marked for death by House Halovar.
This leaves them little choice but to head to Timmony in quest for Casimir.
Upcoming Developments
From the recent installment’s follow-up content, we learn that the Soldiers table won’t be around next week, leaving the remaining eight cast members to round up the Explorers and Schemers tables.
